Reviewing our past week's Scripture readings with my son today during Bible time, and were recapping what God had promised to Abram - that all the earth would be blessed by his descendants (leading to the birth of Christ) and that all the earth would be blessed through Him.
We remembered that God made an everlasting covenant with Abram and his people and promised that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky.
Me: Who were Abraham's descendants?
G: Isaac, Jacob and Israel.
Me: That's right!
Me: We are considered descendants of Abraham too - who do you think that makes us?
G: We are Israel!
Me: Exactly!!! So any time we see God speaking something to Israel in the Bible, we need to remember that He is talking to us too!
If without any coaching or prompting, an almost 10 year old can read the first few chapters of Genesis and realize that we are Israel, why are there so many adults that just can't seem to get a grip on that??
Then we made star-shaped cookies because Abram's descendants would be as numerous as the stars.
Because of the size of our star-shaped cookie cutter, we were only able to get 12 cookies out of the batch - hmmmm - the same number as the tribes of Israel!!! Pretty interesting, huh?
